The Wyoming Department of Corrections contributes to public safety by exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane management, while actively providing offenders opportunities to become law abiding citizens. The Field Services Division is responsible for the community supervision and case management of probationers and parolees. We are a progressive department that offers job variety and challenges working with offenders and the community to make a positive difference. We are seeking to fill a contract (AWEC) position that will conduct state wide pre-sentencing investigations (PSI) and write PSI reports. The position will be based out of the Cheyenne and some travel will be required.

Please note: This position will not be assigned field assignments or caseloads. This position will only be assigned to complete PSI's and write reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

+ Conducts pre-sentencing investigations (PSI) and submits completed reports to the court.

+ Interviews, evaluates and conducts investigations into the offender's background and criminal history to determine their individual risks and needs.

+ Writes detailed reports that will be submitted to the court for consideration in sentencing. Excellent writing skills are needed to be successful in this position.

+ Conducts NCIC and criminal background checks.



Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor's Degree (typically in Social Services) and work experience (typically in Adult Probation and Parole) Excellent writing skills are required for this position and candidates will be required to demonstrate this ability during the interview process.


+ Knowledge of human behavior, crisis behavior, and substance use, abuse & addiction

+ Knowledge of criminal justice system, department policies and procedures

+ Knowledge of criminal and legal law

+ Knowledge of procedures used in criminal justice agencies and cognitive behavior programs

+ Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with offenders and other professionals

+ Ability to be a positive, pro-social role-model for offenders

+ Ability to exercise good judgment when making decisions in highly stressful situations

+ Ability to analyze information from various sources

+ Ability to engage others in innovative solutions

+ Ability to create and implement new concepts and ideas and to motivate others

+ Ability to learn and utilize various interviewing skills, such as Motivational Interviewing

Necessary Special Requirements


+ Physical requirements include lifting up to 20 pounds without assistance.

+ Walking on a constant basis.

+ Visual ability to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

+ Pushing/Pulling/Lifting/Grasping on a regular basis.

+ Typing/Repetitive motion.

+ Visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures, viewing computer terminal, and extensive repetitive motion.

+ Complete and maintain defensive tactics certifications, as required.

+ This position is at-will and may end at any time without notice. The successful applicant will be eligible for Health, Dental and Life insurance with the state contributing the single rate premium to offset costs.
