Description and Functions


Wyoming State Parks & Historic Sites, Non-motorized Trails Program is authorized to hire one seasonal employee for the summer of 2018. The position to be filled is for Trail Construction and Maintenance. The actual length of employment depends on the work location. Please refer to the Essential Functions for more detailed information about job duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

Seasonal Trail Construction and Maintenance

+ Create a visible pathway (trail) for park users to follow by modifying the natural surface terrain using tools to dig, scrap, chop, remove branches, trees, rocks, etc.

+ Trail Maintenance may also include building and repairing stone walls that hold a trail tread.



Must be dependable, self-motivated, flexible, and willing to cohabitate with other trail builders on site.

Prior knowledge of trail construction techniques and familiar with trail tools helpful, but not necessary.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Must be at least 16 years of age.


+ Basic construction and maintenance knowledge.

+ Basic operational knowledge of light and heavy equipment use, as well as hand and power tools.

+ Basic safety awareness of equipment use.

Necessary Special Requirements


+ Positions are headquartered in Cheyenne, but most work will be at Glendo State Park and Curt Gowdy State Park.

+ Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.

+ Must be able to hike and climb while carrying heavy tools and equipment and maintaining a vigorous pace.

+ Must be able to lift heavy rocks and swing trail tools all day.

+ Must be comfortable working in remote locations.


+ FLSA: Non-exempt

+ Seasonal positions require irregular hours of work, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.

+ All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018, are required to be paid hourly.
